Hi Thomas
This link below perhaps shows how to solve your problem
<Configure a USB Spinner in RetroPie on Your Raspberry Pi>
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oOQeUbZudUA&t=17s
Hope the link solves your problem; otherwise I am busy but if you are flexible in time, happy to help. My fee is $50 if I solve your problem; otherwise, no payment. Time invested is not important; solving your hardware integration is the scope. I use Windows and have ignored MacBooks. Raspberry Pi connects with any OS—Windows, Mac, or others. All you need is an SSH terminal or Remote Desktop network for the MacBook. If you're near Lynn, MA, we can meet at my shop to collaborate on hardware and software integration for the Raspberry Pi. Otherwise, we can use TeamViewer.
